Guy
Guy and Dekar are a lot alike. But rather than forming a deep, thoughtful bond over their similarities, they end up butting heads a lot because of their giant egos. Both of them like the spotlight. But as far as who gets it the most and for the longest period of time, Dekar leaves Guy playing second fiddle. He's the star of the party's travels from Aleyn to Karlloon, and Guy doesn't take that too well.Estpolis II implies that as far as brute strength goes, these two are more or less evenly matched. (The scene in the King of Bound's throne room is one such instance — though I point out that Maxim was willing to spar with Guy, but not with Dekar. And there are also the statistics.) But Guy has the upper hand with wit, and often has the last word in their frequent bickering. Yet Dekar, good-natured as he is, doesn't take much offense whenever that happens. As warriors, Dekar and Guy begrudgingly respect each other. Their constant teasing of one another belies a lighthearted friendship that neither will openly acknowledge. However, there is some measure of jealousy between the two as well. Dekar seems jealous of Guy having a girlfriend (he first dismisses the idea in the small shrine to Aleyn, but later snaps at Guy to "just marry her (Jessy) already" in Narcysus), and Guy seems to envy Dekar's ability to get people's attention so easily and consistently (re: "I can't let you be the hero and not me!"). Whether it's friendship or jealousy that dominates the moment depends on the circumstances, though most of the time it seems to be the latter! |
