Idura & Prince Alex
These two characters are the NPCs with whom Dekar interacts the most. With Idura and Dekar, it's another case of rivalry, only very serious this time. Like another rival of Dekar's, Idura has the upper hand mentally speaking. And being an evil character, he resorts to deceit to exploit Dekar's number one weakness. As a good-hearted character, Dekar feels compelled to respond to Idura's taunts and trickery where normally he would simply ignore things (like he does with Selan and Guy when they get snarky). And as good always triumphs in the end, so Dekar always finds a way to best this foe. This is one clash of egos in which Dekar is always the victor. Strangely — and perhaps a portent of his eventual leaving of the party — Dekar doesn't seem to care about Idura's ties to the Sinistrals as much as he cares about putting Idura in his place. Both seem to view each other as mere pests in the beginning, though after several defeats Idura sees that Dekar, stupid though he may be, is a force with which to be reckoned. Prince Alex and Dekar have the most long-standing relationship out of everyone Dekar comes to know in Estpolis II. It's not incredibly close, though, until after the prince meets up with Idura. Though described as a bodyguard to Alex in the English instruction manual, this does not appear to be Dekar's official duty in Bound Kingdom. Rather, the King of Bound calls on his strongest soldier to go after his headstrong son, who believes himself to be a mighty warrior. Dekar politely tells the king that he is growing weary of all the chasing, but the king and queen are powerless to stop things. When the prince and his attendant run into Idura in the North Dungeon, the situation finally changes. Confronted by a truly powerful adversary, Alex is forced to admit that he is not the strong person he thought he was. After Dekar saves the day, he cheers the prince up and offers to train him in swordsmanship. Dekar's patience with Alex shows that despite his flirtatiousness and tendency to brag, he has quite a bit of self-control. At any time he could've told the prince the truth and spared himself of all that running around. He also could have rubbed the prince's helplessness in his face when he rescued him in the North Dungeon. But Dekar is a character who does not hold grudges. Instead, he offers to help the prince become stronger, effectively putting the past behind him and helping to make someone's longtime dream a reality. This relationship demonstrates just how noble a character Dekar truly is. |
